The words that come to my mind after reading: unexpected love, mystery, voodoo, action, romance, thriller, fire, old house, swamps, revenge. Story of Enza who went to Bayou to renovate and sell an old house standing near swamps she inherited from her grandmother. But what seemed to be easy, quickly turned out to be more difficult than Enza would ever imagine.I loved the setting and the mystery, I even got the creeps a few times. The book is full of action, it’s impossible to get bored. Great p [...]

While the plot was predictable for a romance novel, I did like the characters. Faulkenberry did well developing them. I would have liked to have seen a bit more tension between the adversaries but again this is a romance novel and not a thriller. There are a few subplots that I would have liked to have seen more resolution for, but perhaps there will be a sequel. Read my full review at Girl Who Reads

A light, fun read where the girl gets the guy (or the guy gets the girl). It takes place in New Orleans and involves some danger and an old fixer-upper house. I liked both of the main characters a lot. If light, fun, romance sounds good to you, you'll like this one.

I received this through LibraryThing and greatly enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for romance and old houses; this mixed the two perfectly for me.

The best parts about this was the suspense and the voodoo elements. I did like that, while a romance, there was so much more to the story, too.

Bayou My Love is fun. It is full of hot romance. It is also a very well-written and enjoyable read."As I opened the last moon pie I'd smuggled from the motel, I was hit with a flash from years before. Vergie and I were sitting on a quilt in one of the old cemeteries, back in a corner under an oak tree with limbs that undulated along the ground like tentacles. She was telling me ghost stories while we had tea and beignets, the powdered sugar clinging to our noses. We sat still as tombstones while [...]

Before I even finished the first chapter, I knew I was going to love this story. The way Lauren describes her characters… it was perfect! She described the characters with wonderful detail, but not too much detail. I appreciated that because I always love to use my imagination and make the characters my own. Enza and Jack are authentic characters and easy to relate to. I adored reading more about them and found myself unable to put the book down. This story was about much more than just a simp [...]

Given book for an honest review. This book feels so good. Enza is a strong women who finds herself and her life when she goes to Louisiana to flip her grandmothers house. Enza isn't looking for anything and she finds everything. This book is just a great read. It feels so real, and the characters come to life. I was so anxious to find out the "who" in who's doing what. I may study up on voodoo. While reading I could hear the accent in the writing. And as she describes Jack I can see him coming tow [...]

Bayou my love is full of voodoo, mishaps and revenge. Truthfully, I couldn't put the book down and read it in one evening. I was fascinated and anxiously awaited each eloquent sensual and seductive action in the Bayou. I felt amid elements of Louisiana, and all the small town characters that make that click and work perfect together. The past and present meet bringing lovers and haters together. I look forward to reading the additional books. I give this book 4 stars. I was advanced a copy of th [...]

I love this book and the entire Bayou Series. Jack is hot and infuriating and hot. The Louisiana setting is spot on (my family is literally from here), and the main character has some real struggles that she works through in ways that make you cheer her on. This is a great book and the start of a great series.

Reviewed on Musings and Ramblings. This was a new to me author, one who contacted me about reviewing her book. After reading the blurb, it sounded like something I would like so I decided to give it a try. I didn't realize going in that this wasn't a typical HEA book - more a HEA For Now kinda story. The next book will continue Jack and Enza's story. But that is okay, because there was no big cliffhanger, and the ending was at a good stopping point. I really liked Enza. She was hard headed and st [...]

Reviewed at Keeper BookshelfI had read the prequel to this story, Back to Bayou Sabine, a while back so I had a pretty good idea of the background to this story. Enza is tired of her father giving her all the crap parts of the job of flipping houses and none of the responsibilities. She’s good at what she does, and it’s time that good old Dad lets her tackle one on her own – and she’s already picked it out. The house she inherited from her grandmother, the one where she had spent childho [...]

The plot line was a solid concept, though poorly executed. Enza obsessess over her father and his approval and this point is made a little too often, and he makes few appearances. The entire book is her worrying over the damn house and the deadline, then suddenly she just decides to hell with it? It didn't fit. There were several other parts that went along that way, over emphasizing a point, only to have it suddenly dropped and/or magically fixed. The story was good, the characters were good, t [...]

I received this advanced copy from Library Thing. I absolutely loved it and couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the sequel. I've found a new author I love.

Goodness, I’m not sure how to even begin to review the fantastic “Bayou My Love,” by Lauren Faulkenberry! After reading the novella, “Back to Bayou Sabine” I was hoping that the follow-up novel would be wonderful, and it was. “Bayou My Love” picks up with Enza inheriting her grandmother Vergie’s home since her death. Enza convinces her father to let her take the lead on the project of flipping Vergie’s house and heads back to Bayou Sabine. Upon arriving she realizes that an ado [...]

4.2It took me awhile to warm up to this book but once I was in, I was in. There were some flaws with this book. Mainly the physical relationship much too quickly (I could've used more lead up) (view spoiler)[ and no mention at all of contraception. No condom talk, no bc, nothing. I mean, you don't know a guy, and I don't care how hot or nice he is, you always use and talk about protection. Especially if you are an experienced thirty something year old. Shame on both of the characters and the wri [...]

A romantic story of an ambitious workaholic and a charming firefighter. Protagonist Enza Parker goes to the Louisiana bayou to flip the house inherited to her by her late grandmother, whom she hadn't talked to for years. She plans to take on this project to prove herself to her dad, a man who is hard to please. In the bayou, she meets Jack and considers him her biggest distraction, but he wasn't the only distraction in the bayou. Having to deal with a jealous ex-girlfriend, voodoo and some other [...]

I received a free advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book had a lot of potential, but unfortunately it fell into the trap of many romance novels--the plot was far too predictable. It was very obvious who was the arsonist and who was behind the Voodoo items found around the house before the book was even halfway finished. There were a lot of of pro's for the book. The author does a fantastic job with the setting, and I loved the infusion of voodoo into the story line. [...]

Where do I begin.ially I would have given this book 5 stars but once the long drawn out sex scenes started I dropped it to a 3. I always feel as if an author has been told they need to make a certain number of words so they throw in sex. Guess what? I'm an adult and I have an imagination of my own so I don't need the details on something I already know about. What I want is a story I can follow with characters I want to read about. So, I skipped through the sex scenes because I really liked the [...]

Enza, a property developer who's out to prove herself in her father's company, has just inherited her Grandmother's house and wants to show what she can do by making this her first solo flip but in order to do that she must to return to Bayou Sabine, the place she thought she'd left behind. What she didn't expect to find was someone sitting on her newly acquired porchBayou My Love was destined to capture my attention because it contains one of my most favourite places, New Orleans. It features i [...]

I received this copy on Netgalley for an honest review.Almost from the start I was engaged with the story, her vivid imagery had me dreaming about moon pies, alligators, swampy landscape and warm humid nights sitting on a deck listening to the hum of activity all around. The plot was interesting, the unfolding love between the two main characters was emotionally catching and their plight was realistic. I found myself staying up late at night just so I could read one more chapter before turning o [...]

I received a free copy for my honest opinion.First of all: I loved the book. I thought it was really sweet and an amazing story that I didn't want to finish.Second of all: Still, I thought it moved a little too fast; like in other books of the same genre, there's more time to build the tension then in this one. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I love reading books that don't follow the norm, so to speak.Third of all: I loved the characters. I could identify really well with Enza in some thing [...]

I was doing a LibraryThing review of this book and would give this book a 3.5. I'd say that I wasn't crazy about the title of the book,Bayou My Love, but I certainly enjoyed Lauren's writing style. Also, I loved the chemistry that developed between Jack and Enza. It's realistic and exciting (including the sex scenes). New Orleans, was a perfect setting, with it's elements of Black magic and Voodoo and I thought the story was well thought out, with intense scenes between Jack and Remy, our villian [...]

I'm a LibraryThing reviewer and this was the book I received for January 2016. The writing is lovely. I love the chemistry between Jack and Enza. It's realistic and exciting! The intense scenes between Jack and Remy are also good. The author does a wonderful job of making Remy look like a jerk. Josie and Buck are a sweet couple--the kind of relatives you'd want in your family!Voo-doo dolls and black magic in a setting like New Orleans? Nice touch! The main thing I'd change in the story is that I [...]

Enza inherits her grandmother's house. She hasn't seen her grandmother in years. Not since her mother left. Enza's father doesn't want her to even go to the house, but she wants to fix it up and sell it. As they are in the business of flipping houses, this is the perfect opportunity to show her father that she is capable of handling it on her own. He never lets her finish a place without taking over. When she gets to the house, there is a squatter there. Or so she thinks. Enza didn't know that h [...]

Enza travels to Louisiana to flip her late grandmother's former home. Jack, the firefighter, is tenant Enza knew nothing about. Then there's a sexy relationship that develop, someone leaving voodoo, a psycho ex, a psycho arsonist and a psycho father all trying to tear Enza apart. This was interesting to read until the ending. Enza really needed to learn how to grow up.I was unclear about some of the plot points at the end. We found the arsonist, but was that voodoo really Miranda? And I find it h [...]

A intense & sexy read. the author does a great job combining both romance & mystery. I enjoyed the heroine Enza- she was a strong & independent woman but she was still plagued with self doubt when it came to dealing with her father. It was interesting to watch her grown as a person & truly find herself. The author does a wonderful job painting the scenery of the bayou & Louisiana- I felt like I was right there with Enza & Jake. The romance between Jake & Enza is hot a [...]

I am frustrated with Bayou My Love. Faulkenberry's writing style is good and the story had a good flow so it was for the most part an enjoyable read, but in my opinion there were large components of the story left unfinished. Enza and Jack had pretty good chemistry and tension, but the author focused so much on the sex scenes - which the book didn't really need - that the small elements that complete the story were ignored. I thought the ending was very rushed and left too many unanswered questi [...]
