To be completely honest, I'm astonished that I finished this. I've read and enjoyed other books in the series so saying that is disappointing. At 25%, I legit stood up from my couch, slammed my Nook down and walked away. I picked it back up later in the hopes that it got better. Minus some brief mildly charming exchanges, the story just continued in the same vein. I found nothing really redeeming about Lord Dare until the last part of the epilogue -.- He is a lazy, immature, compulsive gambler w [...]

Sometimes falling in love defies all logic, but chemistry is chemistry and the chemistry between Caitlin and Dare often seems like a brew that could blow up at any moment. Emma Locke’s The Danger in Daring a Lady pits love against all odds, as one over-inflated dandy of a man falls for a woman with more backbone than he could ever dream to have.We can safely say it was the luck of the draw that brought Lord Darius to his knees at the feet of a woman ahead of her time, managing her small farm o [...]

  • Sissy's Romance Book Review

I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. This is book four in the "The Naughty Girls" series. I have been jumping in and out of the series so for me it was okay as a standalone book but it would hurt to read the others for the best reading experience. Lord Darius Alexander has always seem to be weak for any wager and thinks nothing of getting in with Caitlin Hart in a gambling table. But Caitlin has surprised him by wining his money at the table. Now [...]

YES! YES! YES! Finally a woman who can go toe to toe with an overwhelmingly arrogant male. Emma Locke, I am loving it. Darius is rich, titled and full of himself but one meeting with a beautiful woman cuts him down to size. Caitlin is smart, beautiful and doesn't suffer fools. My best way of describing her is a newly discovered gem, she's rough around the edges but buried inside is the makings of a beautiful treasure. Her interactions with Darius are pure gold. She doesn't not hesitate to speak [...]

Lord Darius "Dare" Alexander thought he would walk away with a heavy purse and move on, he didn't expect his opponent Ms. Hart though. When Lord Dare loses his families money to Caitlin Hart, he finds himself trying to barter for it back. However Caitlin is not just willing to hand it over. Game, set, match the fireworks are about to erupt and Dare finds himself in a position he has not planned on, however he could lose it all if he is not too careful.Dare took awhile to warm too, he is a bit im [...]

This is the 6th book in THE NAUGHTY GIRLS series. Even though it's part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone. It has some dark moments but the romance is so, so sweet! I didn't feel much chemistry -sexualy- between Dare and Cate, but I could understand where their feelings for each other came from. What I found outstanding is how addiction was treated in this book. I never expected it to end the way it did, the plot was wonderful!I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for an [...]

Dare is quite a handsy man, “damn and blast,” he swore, then cupped her bottom with both hands, holding her pliant body against his aching erection." I liked this book Dare couldn't see himself as a good guy but he really was despite his faults and mistakes.

When I requested this book from NetGalley I had forgotten that I already read one of Emma Locke books - The Problem with Seduction - and I did not like it. Maybe I was thinking that this book may be better, but it wasn't.This time the protagonist of the story are Caitlin and Dare. Caitlin has been maid in mansion, then she become a bar wench and when her sister got married to a crofter, she goes to live with them to take care of their baby daughter. Then she loses her sister and the family to a [...]

Originally Reviewed For: Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and FantasyA Lord with a vice yeah haven't seen that one before *grins* Emma Locke has chosen to call this her Naughty Girls Series but for me, in The Danger of Daring a Lady, I see a strong willed woman and a man with potential That is if he ever gets over his childish ways or hey his gambling addiction. Caitlin Hart is practical in the extreme. She inherited her sister's farm and has spent the past few years working it, pretty much alone. [...]

THE DANGER IN DARING A LADY by EMMA LOCKE is the sixth book in THE NAUGHTY GIRLS series. This is the first book I have read by Emma Clarke, but I find myself drawn into this series and I will go back and read the others. Even though this book is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone. THE DANGER IN DARING A LADY is an historical romance, but it doesn't dwell on details of the period and lose the focus of the story. Miss Caitlin Hart is a strong willed, hardworking, no nonsense, [...]

*I was gifted a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review*I liked this book much better than the last book and since I had read Roman's book, I was able to follow this story despite not having read the entire series.Lord Darius Alexander aka Dare, is the youngest of the 5 Alexander boys and seemly the most irresponsible. He has been sent by his brother Tony to deliver funds to the family's solicitor. On the way he stops for a quick game of chance at a local inn and is drawn i [...]

Caitlin “Cate” Hart and Lord Darius “Dare” Alexander meet in a small village tavern over a game of cards. When Dare loses all he has to Cate he eventually offers to work on her farm to recover what he has lost to her. It is the first time Dare has really worked and with time he begins to feel a bit better about himself. Cat owns her farm, is a “spinster” at age 28, has trouble with the lord on the neighboring property and is lonely but I still don’t see what she sees in Dare. Perha [...]

This is the first book I've read in the series and even though it might have been helpful to read some of the other books, this book did a pretty good job on standing on its own. That said, I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, I adored Caitlin Hart, a strong young woman who was trying to make it in a world that constantly seemed to throw obstacles in her way. She pushed forward because quitting meant she was a failure and that was something Caitlin was not. Her chance meeting of L [...]

This book does not magically get better. Life is too short to read terrible books ladies & gents. The lead male has no character development, he just bumbles around until push comes to shove, and even then his change of heart is paltry. Too late is just too late. I can tell you three other books that have strong female empowerment roles if that's what you're searching for. You will not find it here.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!! Cate and Dare are so real.Dare isn't a rogue, Dare is a gambling addict, who cannot take responsibility for anything when we meet himhe blames everyone else for his behaviorhis greatest weakness is his addiction and his addict behavior. He can't admit he has a problem and own that his family have very good reasons to feel how they do about his behaviour and for not trusting his judgment, or himbut he does begin to take pride in honestly earning his way, working hard, paying of [...]

A great read from begining to end! The story kept me riveted from the second page to the last. You might imagine based on the title and cover art that this would be your normal historical romance but nothing could be further from the truth and I think that is why I enjoyed this book so much more than I anticipated. Our hero and heroine are just normal people dealing with normal, somewhat, circumstances, they don't fall in love, and into each others arms on first sight. In fact in the begining yo [...]

This book has the potential to be a fantastic book. The writing really is good, and drew me in, the plot interesting. There are some fantastic characters but  I wasn't a big fan of Lord Dare, he was weak, pitiful, a slave to his addictions and and his woe is me act. I know that is kind of the point of his character and watching him grow into a better man and changed by love etc. I enjoyed seeing him grow as a character and fall in love but I just prefer a hero to be a man of substance. He was w [...]

A different Regency.I have been reading the occasional Regency for many years and found this to be very different from the formulaic ones. Our heroine is a woman who owns and runs a farm. Our hero is a gambling rake who loses a card game to her. The only way he can get back the money he lost to her is to work on her farm with her. Normally in this genre working class women are not generally treated with respect by the upper crust but that does happen in this novel as does a lot more. It was a qu [...]

When Darius loses a wager to Cate that he can't afford to lose, one thing leads to another until he finds himself in the worst possible situation he can possibly be in. I enjoyed the characters in this one, and the development of Dare's character in particular. The ending seemed a little too fairy-tale perfect, but I liked it all the same. I received a free copy on exchange for an honest review.

Something about this scenario just didn't sit well with me. I think it was the lame idea that you can reform a bad boy, but mostly the way he played this pathetic "I'm no good for you. I don't deserve anything good," BS as a way to hook her into wanting to prove him wrong. Yeah, happy ending but I've seen a guy like this in action and too many women left in ruins by the same type. This whole bad boy thing is something that just needs to go away.

  • Debbie Scott

VERY GOOD HISTORICAL ROMANCEThe storyline and characters are great. A rake gets the chance to reform his life, but feels he must pay his debts before claiming his love. Thank you for an interesting read, Danny and Debbie Scott.

Only made it half way through this one. I did not like either of the main characters, and the dialogue was so far from historically accurate it was ridiculous.

Here we are, back again with Roman Alexander, the Marquis of Montborne and his pair of twin brothers, Anthony & Bartholomew and Constantine & Darius, in the Regency Romance The Danger in Daring a Lady by Emma Locke. Four of them are working hard on making a go of their family business, but they need their unreliable, roguish brother Lord Darius Alexander to earn some capital on the Exchange. Seems that Dare has an uncanny ability of picking out the best investments. Unfortunately he is n [...]

This was a bit of a slow start. I did like the opening scene at the tavern with the card games going on. I spent that whole part silently screaming at Dare to not get greedy and walk away before he screwed everything up. After things inevitably went wrong and Dare started working at Cate’s farm, I got pretty bored. The chemistry between the two wasn’t quite there and it probably didn’t help that it was a lot of descriptions of fixing fences and digging up potatoes. However, once Cate and D [...]

Emma Locke’s fourth full novel (there are also 2 novellas) in The Naughty Girls series takes a decidedly different approach in featuring a flawed hero who takes his time to realize that he’s going to have to do more than coast by to keep the woman who has quickly stolen his heart. When Lord Darius loses at a card table in a small town, it’s not just his money that’s gone, it’s the last dregs of his reputation too, if he doesn’t make it to the banker with the money chit his brothers e [...]

Loved this little gem of a book. Cate and Dare will steal your heart with their story. I always enjoy a regency tale that doesn't focus on London society. Throw in a rake that needs to reform, and I'm all in. My heart ached for Dare. I have to go read the stories of his brothers now.

  • Corinne

Not my first nor my last Emma Locke read. Caitlin (27/28) is trying to make a living working the farm left to her after her only family - sister, brother-in-law and niece - died in an accident. Her neighbor Lord Brammer is making her life difficult by sabotaging her efforts. Then Lord Dare, 5th son of a no longer wealthy marquisate family, enters her world. He's charming, while she's wary and lonely. The two work amiably together until his eldest brother arrives to collect him. There's an openne [...]

I really enjoyed this book. the heroine was strong and independent, but the hero, Darius, was a bit of a flake. but he had his good qualities. I was wavered on the rating, because it really deserved three and a half stars, so I rounded it up to four.

  • Candy Briggs

tWonderful storyHow would you feel if you were to lose the love of your life. What a delightful but sad story. A family in turmoil. I shed a few tears over this one but such a good read. Enjoy!

  • Deb Diem

The Danger In Daring A Lady by Emma Locke is a fast paced story. Ms Locke has loaded this book with amazing characters that made this book a fun read. There's plenty of drama, spice, suspense and humor to keep readers entertained. I enjoyed The Danger In Daring A Lady and look forward to reading more from this author. The Danger In Daring A Lady is book 4 of The Naughty Girls Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete story, not a cliff-hanger.
