Looking for supernatural suspense of the highest order? Read "Return to Mateguas Island" by Linda Watkins. A book like this challenges the reviewer to give an opinion without spoiling the story, so I'll simply say that although "Return to Mateguas Island" was preceded by Watkins' "Mateguas Island," you can read this story without having read its predecessor. "Return" picks up after Maggie, our heroine, becomes pregnant, and although you'll want both books, you can certainly begin reading here, s [...]

Mateguas Island by Linda Watkins was an great thriller. Return to Mateguas Island follows in its footsteps as another awesome thriller. The story of Karen Anderson, her daughters, and Karen’s new husband brings about lots of suspense as the family returns to Mateguas Island after a ten-year absence. Karen’s daughters, now grown, want to learn more about the suspicious circumstances to their father’s disappearance on the island. None of them could have predicted the twists and turns that wo [...]

I read the first book and was delighted to see a sequel coming out. There were questions left and it was intriguing. Yes, I got answers to some of those questions and in addition, now have a bunch more. I am thinking another book in the series is coming along and will be looking out of for it.So what did I like the most about this book? Aside from the stunning settings, it was the growth and development of the characters. Karen and her daughters return to the Island years later and on the surfac [...]

What can I say? I really don’t know where to begin. Mateguas Island, the first book in the series was the best book I read last year. And, I did a lot of reading. I like horror and supernatural genres and maybe I am biased, but unless it is well written it doesn’t hold my attention. This one did and oh! so well. I’ve been waiting for the release of the second book in the series for ever so long, and it has been totally worth the wait. Though you should certainly read the series, the author [...]

Love, lies, secrets and deceit!!! Not everything is as it seems.Return To Mateguas Island by Linda Watkins is a book I have been waiting to read. The others have left us readers in great suspense after the first two books in the series and I have been waiting with anticipation to find out where this would lead. This is a thrill ride that captivated my interest from the start. The author weaves an unpredictable tale that has the reader around her little finger. This page turner is spooky and myste [...]

Last year, I was privileged to read Mateguas Island by Linda Watkins, and she absolutely blew me away with the thrills and mystery. That novel was so deserving of the award it won and recognition it received. When I heard there was to be a sequel, I just could not wait - and it was well worth it! I can't imagine that this novel won't become another fan favorite and go on to win additional awards.I fear saying too much for spoilers, so I'll do my best to leave it spoiler free! Watkins's writing s [...]

This is a book which transcends any one fixed genre; there is mystery, suspense, drama, intrigue, love, jealousy, passion, all set within a stunningly beautiful environment. The story follows on from the first book in the series, but can still be read on its own. Mateguas Island is an arena of swirling myths, legends, and mysterious forces, let alone the setting for the events of the first book, events themselves still not fully explained… Karen and her daughter return to the island, maybe see [...]

I love the thought of getting lost in a good sequel, where questions are answered and characters, old and new, develop with the story. Karen's twin daughters, grown and now embroiled in this mystery and supernatural suspense, were brilliantly drawn. The supernatural plot was more intense in this book 2 and though the book had a satisfactory conclusion, I still think there is room for another story.Ms Watkins has an effortless way of moving her story along smoothly. I don't think I want to put in [...]

I love this series! I found the Return to Mateguas as powerful and thrilling as Mateguas Island. The author has done a superb job of building tension, creating realistic characters and writing crisp, meaningful dialogue with vivid description. I love the setting and could easily identify with most of the characters. In Return, Dex and Karen have come back to the island with 18 year old twins Sophie and Terri who hope to learn more about their father's untimely death. The story unfolds quickly, a [...]

I really enjoyed my first trip to Mateguas Island and my second stay was even better. This is a really good read. The supernatural elements are engrossing, but it is the character development that really draws you in. This is one of those books you read late into the night, promising yourself ' just one more chapter', but completely powerless to put the book down. I was glad to find there will be another installment in the Mateguas series, as there are a few loose ends that will nicely tie into a [...]

High suspense and flashes of horror beckon readers to Return to Mateguas Island, the second book in Linda Watkins trilogy.Return to Mateguas Island picks right up with the same intrigue, suspense, drama and mystery that Mateguas Island contained. A page turner from the beginning, this is a tale you will not want to walk away from. The story begins years later with, Karen Anderson along with her new husband Dex and her two teenage daughters returning to the island. Karen goes quite reluctantly, b [...]

The battle that started in the first thrilling book continues but this time the stakes are higher. This time Karen is not only battling for her family but for the future of mankind. This is the book I've been waiting for ever since I read the first part, Mateguas Island, so when this sequel came out, I was prepared. I turned my phone off, made a nice little nest on a corner of my couch and had some snacks within reach…I did not leave the couch until I'd finished the book! Oh my God! Linda Watkins has done it again! Taking the readers back to Mateguas Island, where all our questions would be answered…or not…and making the reader's head spin with an unpredictable storyl [...]

Highly recommend to fans of the mystery genre especially if you enjoy a bit of spookiness!Watkins sure knows how to grab your attention and she holds on to it as tightly as the vines in the woods. With short chapters of various lengths there are plenty of cliff-hangers and suspense to keep you saying, "Just one more chapter." Intrigue, sexual tension, secrets and the old myths are weaved into one great story which I thoroughly enjoyed. Although it could be read as a stand alone I recommend you p [...]

After reading the first book in the series, you’ll be glad to find out that there is a second one. I love where this story goes, where it’s been, and where it may be headed. The characters are amazing, and some are pretty spooky. I am such a wuss when it comes to horror novels, so I can only read books in this genre during the day, but believe me, when the sun began to set I had a hard time putting this one down. Watkins has a gift for painting the picture in your mind, to a point that I can [...]

If you enjoyed Metaguas Island, you’ll certainly enjoy its sequel. But, like its predecessor, Return To Metaguas isn’t a tale of terror and suspense merely. To be sure, it contains those elements. But the pleasure in reading both tales lies in the genuine and compelling weave of wrenching human emotion, compounded by folly and catalyzed by events that lie beyond understanding. Oh, by the way, even if you haven’t read Mateguas Island, you’ll want to after completing Return. I only hope th [...]

Return to Mateguas IslandAnother killer book by Linda Watkins. This lady should have written for Alfred Hitchcock. Her books about this beautiful island in Maine are the stuff nightmares are made of and should never be read just before bed by the faint of heart. Great story and I hope she does a follow-up.

A great series and from what I read there is another book to follow. Well paced throughout. i liked how she effectively switched from one characters side of the storyline to anothers in each chapter. Difficult to put down and I was glad that I started reading the series after all 3 books were out so I didn't have to wait for a sequel.

Great page turner! it didnt take long to get into this suspenseful paranormal read! I just found out this was the 2nd book in a series so I am looking forward to finding book 1.This was my first reading by this author. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading her again.

Good readThis book was a really good read with well developed characters and page turning suspense. Waiting happily for the sequel.

The key to full enjoyment of this book lies in its title – you will enjoy it much more if you have read book 1: Mateguas Island, which ended on a cliff hanger. Bill Andersen, the man at the heart of these stories is depicted very much in the style of a hero from ancient Greek tragedy. He is fatally flawed; no matter how much he professes to adore his wife, he can’t help himself from being unfaithful to her. In this book we see that his infidelity of the previous book has had truly devastatin [...]

I read Mateguas Island by Linda Watkins rather quickly and jumped immediately onto Return to Mateguas Island, excited for the suspenseful read. Due to a death in the family, my reading time for the Return to Mateguas island was limited as I was dealing with family and the grieving process, and not being able to finish it immediately left me wondering what had happened to the characters. I was addicted, I wanted more. This was also a nice break from that. The sequel picks up with Karen Anderson an [...]

It’s the time of year when people are beginning to head off on their annual break and need a pile of books for the beach, rainy days and long flights. You do need the right sort of book for this – something that’s well-written, sucks you in and entertains you. This fits the bill. Linda Watkins’s Return to Mateguas Island is a horror-thriller, set on an island off Maine. It’s the sequel to Mateguas Island: A Novel of Terror and Suspense. In that, a software engineer who has lost his job [...]

What can I say about this sequel? I mean, let me put it this way- I stayed up until 2:30 in the morning to finish this book. It was that difficult for me to put it down to go to sleep. Truly, it kept me guessing until the end. This story has it all: supernatural, romance, suspense, mystery, horror. The author does a fantastic job picking up where the first book left off (although it was ten years later). I really enjoyed the twins, who are now eighteen years old.As far as they adults in the seri [...]

Great island readI did Enjoy this book was the second one already read first one. Sometimes some of it seems kind of silly, but once you get I to it all fits. Waiting on book three.

  • Richard Schwindt

The sequel to Mateguas Island is structured much like the first; a family drama morphing into a supernatural thriller. The surviving characters from the first book are back and the story starts as a reunion of sorts; then becomes a very unexpected reunion. By the time we start to weave in the mystical heritage of the island and some well drawn Native American characters we begin the see the suspense building up. This is an important point because author, Linda Watkins has a gift for drawing us i [...]
