Comments The Derby Man

  • Barry

Excellent western novel with very unlikely hero. Darby is the Derby man. A writer of western yarns who had never been west. He decides to write the life story of a sheriff and gets involved in the story. A good fun western.

  • Robert C. smith

A Real Honest to Goodness Western! If reader's need a well-known comparison, McCarthy tells a story like Louis L'Amour and Larry McMurtry combined. An authentic western tale with graphically visual action scenes blended with endearingly unique characters, "The Derby Man" is one of the best westerns ever written.

  • Jack Sakalauskas

This book is a western story of the usual type. To make things different, the unlikely hero is greatly overweight and wears a derby hat. You won't find any young maiden in distress. There are bits of humor, but the book holds no big surprises. Okay for a short read if you can get over the errors. I never did learn the Sherriff's name. It seemed to be interchangeable.

  • John

A Good StorylineThe characters were realistic and easy to relate to. A story of two men bent on revenge. The three stars are for the less than perfect grammar.

  • Casey

Unusual but lovable heroThe only thing that kept me from enjoying every word was the distraction of not knowing whether the sheriff's name would be spelled with a "G" or a "C".

  • Robert Hazelwood

Very entertaining yarn, though editing needs some work. Look forward to the further adventures in this series.
