Rated RThis is definitely a mystery that you won't be able to figure out. The characters descriptions are vivid and the setting is one that can't be beat. The story has humor along with romance and mystery. What sets it apart from a other mysteries is the addition of Hawaiian lore and paranormal tidbits.

I loved this book! Kym Roberts has written a gem here that you can’t afford to pass up.She’s taken a murder mystery, added paranormal aspects, a three-way romance, and traditional native legends to create something totally different and unlike anything I’ve seen in a mystery/romance novel. There’s also humor as the story starts out with what I found to be a hilarious introduction to our main characters and the mystery they must solve.Kym Roberts’ background as a criminal investigator i [...]

I do have to admit to you that paranormal novels aren’t usually my cup of tea. It’s my upbringing or something, I don’t know. But that’s beside the point. I loved this book! Kym Roberts has written a gem here that you can’t afford to pass up. She’s taken a murder mystery, added paranormal aspects, a three-way romance, and traditional native legends to create something totally different and unlike anything I’ve seen in a mystery/romance novel. Delightful, hilarious, intriguing and well plotted. I never knew what to expect next. I loved it, and am looking forward to more. There were so many extra elements that took this beyond the boundaries of a cozy but after the first chapter, it fell well within my comfort level. All of the major characters were great and I am dying to read more about themMalai lived a fairly normal life in Kauai’, Hawaii until she found the dead guy, and TOUCHED him!!! (oooh dead man cooties!! and sand flees) Si [...]

You have to love a mystery when it is set in Hawaii and especially on my favorite island of Kauai! I would probably consider this a cozy (the author calls it a Cozy on the Edge)rf instructor helps solve the crime while having 2 men interested in her (and what woman wouldn't love that?!). There is a little bit of paranormal going on, but just a touch - Pai can read Malia's mind. A little more happens but don't want to spoil that for you.I love the nickname that is given to Windy, a woman that sti [...]

Dead On Arrival by Kym Roberts is the first in her Malia Fern mystery series. It was a very enjoyable read with some laugh out loud moments, beautiful scenery and scary villains. This book has every thing that I enjoy in a mystery - fully developed characters, plot twists that kept me turning the pages, humor and romance. Kym also included a touch of paranormal and some of the culture and folklore of Hawaii. In fact, I was fascinated with the folklore and cultural references throughout the book. [...]

I don't typically read romantic cozy mysteries with a comedic slant, but I was in the mood for something lighter than my usual dark and twisted type of story. Dead on Arrival totally fit the bill. My favorite aspect? The book's heroine, Malia Fern, is a sexy, modern version of Lucille Ball sans the red hair - LOL! Malia is tough with a touch of naivete that is endearing. She somehow gets into allllll sorts of trouble (more than once involving a lack of clothes - lmao) and, most fun of all, has t [...]

As close to a Hawaiian vacation as I've gotten in a while, this was the perfect paranormal read for the beach or anywhere. Loved the unique setting, mystery, lore and laugh out loud quality of this Malia Fern story and hope this is the first of many installments!

  • Susan

This was a new author for me and one I'll definitely be reading more of. Cast of characters that you'll instantly like, or hate. Love Malia's determination to be on her own. And you got to love two sexy guys, Pai & Makaio! I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.

Really enjoyed this book. The Hawaiian culture and backdrop was a welcome change for me. Lots of humor and romance. Some laugh out loud moments. I would say for mature audiences. Very good!

Damn! Awesome!! loved it. I received the ecopy of the book in exchange of an honest review. This is the first book I'm reading of Kym Roberts and she surprised me and I'm so looking forward to read her other books. In this Maila Fern stumbles upon a dead body by the shore and she wants to solve the mystery whether it was an accident or murder, cuz it called for help from her. With her solving mystery and stumbling upon two cousins who also want to solve the case as one being a cop and other being [...]

Completely fell in love with Malia Fern. I do not envy her position in having to decide between those two sexy cousins though! I know who I'd pick, but it would be a tough decision! Enjoyed learning about Hawaiian culture and folklore in this story. It made me want to research more on my own because I thought that part of the storyline was fascinating.

  • Jerrie Alexander

Never having taken a Hawaiian vacation, this book made me feel as if I had! I don't do spoilers, but if you like realism, humor, adventure, and a little paranormal, you will enjoy reading this book as much as I did. Ms. Roberts writes from experience, tapping into her experience as an investigator, and it shows in the realism of the story.

Dead On Arrival by Kym RobertsAn entertaining mystery with a touch of paranormal. Witty humor, sarcasm and lust drive this story that takes place in Hawaii and tells of the mystical ancestors. Cops and robbers and a part-time surf instructor turned investigator twist the mystery up, down and around the island. It's a fun ride and read.

  • Cindy

This was a fun romantic mystery. I look forward to trying other books by this author.
