This is a great read aloud book for kindergarten aged kids learning the difference between wants and needs. The boy packs what he thinks he needs for visiting his grandma’s house; and then, his mother comes along with a differing perspective. There are several great activities online that go along with this book such as a blank suitcase where students draw items they would take to someone’s house. This book provides not only a teachable moment, but it also gives the reader the opportunity to [...]

I thought this book had great illustrations and really would help a child with reading because it has large print and simple words for just starting out. Instead of writing some of the words it has a picture replacing it. It also repeats the sentence "that i'll pack in the bag that I'm taking to grandma's" after each item description which is a great tool to remember what the book is about. Overall I think it was very well written.

This book is great for a child who is beginning to read. The illustrations are great and in parts of the book, the words are replaced with pictures. This would seem to help the reader. The book is repetitive because it repeats "that I'll pack in the bag I'm taking to Grandma's" over and over again. Overall, this is a fun and cute book to read.

This book is an enjoyable one in the style of The House that Jack Built. It's a fun sing song to read aloud. Also, I love that the main character is very gender neutral. I remembered reading it to C when she was little - good memories.

Shirley Neitzel's rhyming rebus's are fun to read with children. The Jacket I Wear in the Snow is one of my favorite storytime read-alouds. The Bag I'm Taking to Grandma's I used to read to my son before he would visit his Grandma's

This book was one of the most requested by son as a child. Through the years it has been pretty popular in my classrooms. Packing a bag to take to grandma's can be challenging, there is only so much you fit in without it breaking. This book captures the dilema perfectly. A wonderful book!

A little boy has lots to pack for his visit to Grandma's! Will Mom approve?
