The six stories of Coming Unglued take us on a tour of moments when, as Yates put it things fall apart the center cannot hold, moments populated by Stalin s paranoid flunkies, postapocalyptic free love commune dwellers, spin doctors for a town accursed, teachers keeping secrets, and luckless art thieves bedeviled by hulking men in black.

Reviews for short story collections are always tricky.I received this book through First Reads, and I was expecting a collection of heartbreak, death, and loss. I was pleasantly surprised.First up we have Liberty Bell by Peter Barlow, a story about a presumably cursed town. Second we have Velocity by Doug Heckman, a story about a High School Social Studies teacher with a unsuccessful love life. Third up is The Kiss by Natasha Grinberg, a tale of love found and lost in Soviet Belarus. Fourth is K [...]

Coming Unglued: Six Stories About Things Falling Apart by Peter M Barlow is an interesting little collection of stories about, well, when things go pear shaped. The stories are as different from each other as possible, though I found each and every one of them worth reading. A number of them have stuck with me. I especially liked Peter Barlow's Liberty Bell and Natasha Grinberg's stories; I will look for more of their work. All in all, a good, thought-provoking collection. The stories in the boo [...]

I won this book through the giveaway page. You know how generally when you read a short story collection it's rather hit or miss, some stories are good while others aren't so much?Coming Unglued: Six Stories about Things Falling Apartisn't like that. I genuinely enjoyed all six stories in this book! I've read a lot of short story collections and while this one is shorter than most it may just be the best one I have ever read. And some of the stories have stuck with me, unlike so many I read. *M [...]

Coming Unglued is a small collection of short stories all connected by the theme of things not working out quite as planned. Usually with mixed short story collections I expect there to be a couple of standouts and a few duds, but this collection managed to pull off six strong stories without the dip in quality. While I don't think there is anything earth shattering here, I did find it easy to digest and ultimately enjoyable. Not bad for a book that can be read in a single sitting.

This was the first book that I've read that was comprised of short stories. Some of the stories were more enjoyable than others so I didn't know how exactly to rate the book as a whole. I really liked "The Liberty Bell" story, about a town that just has some pretty rotten luck or maybe even could be cursed? I was hoping the other stories would be more like that one, but I guess not.

This book had six short stories in it. The only story I liked was "The Kiss". The rest of them were just not interesting to me. Very dull and boring. Almost a waste of my time. Sorry
