Yes, I've been on a sad streak, but I swear it's not because of my mood! This was just a crappy book! The relationship between the two MCs in Rite of Passage was literally forced. Seriously, John, a writer who is medicated because of severe panic attacks, is set up in an isolated house in the middle of no where in Colorado (not even any postal service) with a gay, hunky neighbor, by his publicist with the hopes he will produce a manuscript for her. The neighbor is sent specifically to keep an eye [...]

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, life can go terribly wrong. Things that we believed would last forever can suddenly vanish, leaving us lost and alone. In order to make sense of our lives again, we need a change. We need to separate ourselves from our past lives in order to gain perspective and reevaluate what's important. John Ashley Price of 'The Rite of Passage' by Bryl R. Tyne, was at this point in his life. He needed to experience a rite of passage, a journey away from his old life and [...]

Nice book :)I would say it's not romance or at least not strictly romance and more insight into John's inner world and I loved it! He isn't your typical romance hero and his insecurity, phobias and broken heart you can't help, but feel for him and sympathize with him. But he isn't weak or whiny - far from it - he's just having a hard time and needs someone's shoulder to lean on. Or maybe not just shoulder :) And here comes Pet and he's perfect for that role. We don't get to know much about him, [...]

Reviewed by Jamie: I have to admit, the lacklustre front cover did not inspire me to read this story, nor did the slightly slow start. I am pleased that I did however, and was soon engrossed as the tale unravelled about John, an author who moves into the woody wilderness of a small town to finish his latest book. His plan is to get over a broken heart while at the same time do some sneaky research at a nearby wildlife sanctuary, namely with wolves.I loved how this story gathered pace, the descri [...]

3.5-4This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. The writing style is fluid and doesn't stray into too much description but just enough for me. John may have been a little over-the-top neurotic but I understood his issues so accepted them for what they are - having that damn picture in his bed just about tore my heart out though. I really liked Pat, his determination and kindness. I think they're a good couple in a good novel.

Ok m/m romance about an anxiety-stricken writer who moves to the Colorado Rockies for solitude and to hopefully get past his writer's block. This was hard for me to rate, since I had a hard time with the writing style and never connected with the main character.

I really enjoyed thisI thought the characters were interesting and really loved reading about them.

  • Lily

It was a nice story but I had a hard time connecting with one of the main characters plus the ending felt strange to me.

  • Driima

The beginning was very promising, the two MC's seemed quirky and flubbed enough to hold my attention and I was enjoying myself but then somewhere in between this book lost me. (view spoiler)[Well it was near the endIt started when Pat visited unannounced and John finally recognized him as his new neighbour an flipped out. From that point on the story only got irritating I still can't understand John, even regarding his past, or perhaps exactly because of it - nothing matched up - it was just to [...]

A nice short story - great for a quick afternoon read. It has the back story for a full-length novel (I kept expecting werewolves!) and more drama with potential misunderstandings and ex's but the author kept it to a novella.(PS. It's not about cowboys, despite the cover picture).

  • Clover

a little too short at the end (almost finished the story when it became interesting).

  • Meggie

Wow the story was messed up.

  • Ana

I think the author tried to present a too serious theme in such a short book. Unfortunately it ended up lacking some depth. It was enjoyable though as a simple romance novel.
