The Dead Tracks is the second book in the amazing David Raker series. This book is a quite important book if you’re looking to read the whole series as it introduces a number of characters who make reappearances throughout the series, giving you information to their backstory along with showing you how they came to interact with David. Whilst I would not say it is necessary to have read the prior books in this series – you can read them as standalone books if you want to – I really would r [...]

Huddled together in a corner of Bristol Library the other evening, sat a cluster of fifty enthusiastic book lovers. Not the biggest of audiences by any stretch of the imagination. Perched on bar stalls, staring back was the top selling crime writer Michael Robotham. The support act for the evening (his words) was the Bath based author Tim Weaver – yep I’d not heard of him either.I soon heard how Michael Robotham's psychological thrillers have been translated into twenty-two languages and pub [...]

Another awesome read. Tim Weaver is one to watch when it comes to hard, gritty thrillers. As much as I dislike reading violence, I can't put these books down. They're brutal and shocking and even as I clench my fists and curl my toes and tense every muscle as I read I can't stop turning the pages. My heart races as I read faster and faster and there's always a twist somewhere in there that shocks me more than anything. You very slowly learn more about David Raker while you read these books. I'd de [...]

Oh how I love David Raker! He's so smooth, got the answer to everything, he's like James Bond, only better! You may be able to tell that Tim weaver's brilliant character feels very real to me. I absolutely adore him and if I were 20 years younger, (and about 14 stones lighter), I know he'd love me too! As is my unintentional custom, I have listened to these in entirely the wrong order. This in no way detracts from the sheer pleasure of the story; another intricately woven plot that is so clever [...]

So, having loved “Chasing the Dead” the first in the David Raker series from Tim Weaver I started in on The Dead Tracks with a great sense of anticipation. I wasnt even anywhere near that place called disappointed. Weaver is actually an excellent surname for this particular author – he weaves an intricate and twisted tale that swallows you up until it finally spits you out satisfied and wanting more.In this instalment, David is asked to track down a young girl called Megan.e police enquiry [...]

The Dead Tracks is the follow up to Weaver's debut novel Chasing The Dead. Featuring David Raker, private detective and widow, The Dead Tracks is a superb sequel. Raker is an excellent creation, the right amount of pathos and humility throughout, he is fast becoming one of my favourite lead characters in crime fiction.Again, similar to other novels I've reviewed recently, there are elements of the horror genre to be found within the story. The woods central to the story, are expertly written and [...]

Oh My, Oh My! His first book, Chasing the Dead was good but this is stupendous. Really tough crime thriller featuring David Raker, a missing persons investigator. This time he's on the trail of a young girl who's gone missing but what a web he finds himself entangled in. It really is a page-turner, a nail biting what comes next thriller! Just can't wait for his next book!

  • Karen

This is an excellent series. Beware, this is crime at its most violent and horrible. It is on the level of the Chelsea Cain series featuring Gretchen Lowell and Archie Sheridan. The writing, setting, charactersl are superb. My opinion, anyone who likes this genre should put this author on their "to read" list!

  • Plum-crazy

Phew!! Well, I often say it but this really is a right ol' heart-pounder- fantastic, loved every bit of it :o)The style reminded me of Stephen Leather's Jack Nightingale series, simple language no-nonsense tale-telling & a gripping story with very gruesome undertones the cover says "Fans of Mo Hayder will be in seventh hell"!

  • Lynda Kelly

This was another great story in this series but unlike the first one, this one has a lot more errors so cost him the 5* review. He still persists in using American spellings the whole way through as well. Apart from the word arse. He spelt that correctly.I hope Megan's parents paid David well for the job of trying to locate her as she was no simple find !! He really went through it again. It's time he had an easier case, I reckon ! It's also time he learnt some manners. There's nary a please or [...]

3.5 starsThe second in the series of David Raker. David, once a journalist, now getting hired to find lost people, becomes involved in a police case when he is asked to find a missing girl. The police are not happy to have David rooting around in their business, especially when it may impact on an Organized Crime case.Horrific serial killer takes young women and does unspeakable experiments on them, all for his own twisted reasons. The police are obstructive but despite them, David manages to com [...]

Amazing book, definitely recommend reading this!!!!! If you are not into gory things, this book is not for you. This author deserves more attention and popularity, his writing is like Mo Hayder but a bit simpler. At the same time, he puts his own twist by using captivating vocabulary. *This is a scary book that involves murder and violence*

  • El

I can see that this is a good, well-written thriller but it is way too violent for me - and yet again a book brutalising women. It is full of twists and clues and dead-ends but the gruesome nature of the plot repelled me and I wouldn't recommend it. Too harrowing for my tastes. I'll try Weaver's third book in this series and hope for a less brutal storyline.

  • Susan

Superb! I found this totally gripping. I read the last 100 pages or so in one sitting. The development of the main character is particularly good and even the psycho-serial killer is more than just a stock villain. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. Highly recommended.

  • Sandra

a really good read. i havent read all the Raker series but those i have read are really gripping. this one is particularly gruesome i thought although essential to the overall story. it was a well thought out and unusual criminal story and kept me going

    A brilliant read

  • Kathleen Brunnett

This author does not disappoint. Sad that I only have one more book of his left to read.

Another great read! This is the second Tim Weaver novel I've read and I enjoyed it very much. Great believable characters and a superb plot. Thank you.

Much better than the first Raker novel.

This review contains will spoil book one for those yet to readWow. I read the first David Raker book, Chasing the Dead, only a few days ago and upon finishing it immediately started this, book two. After finishing it I can safely say that out of nearly 170 books read in 2013, this is one of my favourites. Tim Weaver is a fantastic writer and one hell of a storyteller. Much like Simon Kernick, the books pick up the pace very quickly and do not let up until the final page. In fact I'd say that thi [...]

Tim Weaver is, to put it simply, an amazing author! The Dead Tracks is one of those books that you just don't want to put down and I'd give it a rating of 4.5 rather than 4 stars. The story moves fast, is written with beautiful clarity and leaves no loose ends hanging. The twists, turns and surprises keep coming and leave you guessing at the end of almost every chapter. The book goes from normal to creepy (in a thrilling way) without wasting time on niceties. You get into the story from the firs [...]

All Weaver's David Raker books are a cracking read.

The Dead Tracks is Tim Weaver's second book of the David Raker missung person's investigator series and just like his debut, it doesn't disappoint. Raker is once again enlisted by a family whose teenage daughter has gone missing. Using some unorthodox and sometimes illegal investigative techniques allows Raker to follow some seemingly random but ultimately connected leads to an unsolved case involving Milton Sykes who allegedly and notoriously murdered 13 girls a century before. It's remarkable [...]

For a crime story, 'The Dead Tracks' was an easy read. The descriptions of what the victims endure are good enough to paint a picture of how much pain and suffering they've experienced while simultaneously not being too off-putting. The book starts off slow-paced but it begins to pick up later on leading to a satisfying ending. The lead character David Raker is likeable as he's serious, dedicated and patient. Some of the police's actions were pretty dumb but that didn't detract from my enjoyment [...]
